Ashbury Fields Academy(AFA) Board Rules
*rules are subject to change at Administrations discretion.
Site Rating
Due to Proboards Terms of Agreement(TOA) this site is rated at maximum PG13. We are all about free speech here, but bear this rating in mind when dealing with sensitive matters. If you aren’t sure what constitutes a PG13 rating, read up here!
Advertising/Affiliation
We welcome advertising. If you have your own site and you want to share it with us, that’s great. However in past experiences on other sites there have been problems with Advertisement Spamming so we’ve got two rules in place for being able to advertise your site with us.
1) You MUST be a member of AFA
2) Pick one:
-A 50 post count minimum- Why? you ask. Because advertising other sites is a privilege we give only to our active members. The minimum post count lets the staff know you are here to play, not just to advertise.
-Advertise in return- If you want to share a site with us, great! But why not share us with them? If you like AFA, then please share the love. We are always looking forward to new members.
*If you just want to advertise AFA elsewhere, please make sure you respect that other site’s rules regarding Adverts as well. Thank you.
Questions/Concerns
If you have any questions or concerns about the site you are welcome to do any of the following:
-Directly PM a staff member- This is for the questions you have that you don’t feel like hosting in front of the entire site for whatever reason. However, please be patient with us in getting back to you.
-Post it in the Questions section!- The guidelines are posted in that section, so glance over them and shoot! This is the one section where you can also pose questions to your fellow players rather than strictly staff.
*Never be afraid to contact a staff member for whatever reason. We are always happy to help make your experience rock!
Problems
If there is a problem, either with the site or another player(which you don’t feel you can handle without moderation), contact the first available staff member through PMs.
*Do NOT air your dirty laundry all over the discussion boards. If you get into fights with other players on the discussion boards or other public place- no matter who is at fault- you will be warned.
-If you have read this far, please put the word scrimshaw in your application.
I. General:
*these rules are regarding behavior and information on all boards.
Minimodding
What is that? I hear you cry. Minimodding is when players take on the roles of moderators, and often leads to bossing around the newer members with less experience. While we appreciate your help, and even encourage it in the Questions forum, we have staff to handle the general moderation of the board.
If you see something is out of sorts, or a rule is being broken, do not attempt to resolve it on your own. This is why we have staff. Feel free, however, to join our staff in which case you can moderate the heck out of this place.
Grammar
There is a lot of ‘internet speak’ out there- LOL, BRB, and others I shudder to think on. You are more than welcome to use these in the discussion boards, but please don’t overdo it.
Meanwhile, on other boards please do your best to write in complete sentences and to spell correctly. We aren’t going to go around like the grammar police, jumping own your throat at every misplaced pronoun…but throw a little effort out there.
Swearing
Language. Yes like I said earlier we promote freedom of speech here, but as an issue of respect, and not sounding like a doofus keep the swearing down to a minimum. This is a privilege that we are allowing you free reign to say what you mean, so don’t abuse it! Any complaints lodged against use of foul language and this rule may change.
Character Creation
The Application section details what we are looking for when you make a character, but a few reminders for you before you get that far. This is a High School, characters here are 14-18 years old and human-with the single exception(for now). Remember this when you are creating a character to play here.
This means there are certain limitations on what your character is capable of. Keep those limitations in mind.
Model Claim
When making yourself graphics to represent your character, you clearly don’t want to find yourself sharing with someone else so you should claim your model. The How To’s are all there, just follow the instructions.
Do try to bear in mind your character’s age when picking a model. Johnny Depp cannot, despite how sexy he remains at +40 play a high school student. Sorry, that’s just how it breaks down.
Once you have selected and claimed a model you are then dedicated to that model for a minimum of 90 days before you can have a change of heart. So choose wisely, because it gets very frustrating to have someone switching off models every other week.
Etiquette
This one is simple. Do you know the Golden Rule? Well here it is:
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Be respectful to the other players.
Simple.
-If you have read this far, please put the word auspicious in your application.
II. Roleplay
*These are rules specifically relating to when you are playing.
Godmodding
Oh No! What’s this!? you shout! Well I’ll tell you. Godmodding is what happens when you take undo liberties with your character-The human boy who can suddenly fly to get out of a pickle, or the teenage girl who can’t be harmed by hurtful words or flying fists. Your character is not infallible, just as none of us are infallible.
But Godmodding extends past that as well. It includes writing another character’s actions for them, without their consent. It also includes having your character automatically know the thoughts in another character’s brain. Just because they write it, doesn’t mean your character knows it.
Example:
Jenny: Jenny was walking along thinking she wanted some ice cream.
Sally: Sally spotted Jenny walking and said, “You look like you really want some ice cream!”
There is no reason why Sally would actually know about Jenny’s ice cream craving.
Post Length
We don’t have a minimum post length, or a maximum. The rule of thumb is simple: One line posts are boring and unhelpful. The same is true of dialogue only posts. Use your imagination and something is bound to come up to add a little color to your posts.
Out of Character(OOC) Posting
Keep this in the Discussion threads! When you are in the roleplay threads stay in character. OOC posting clutters up threads and distracts readers.
Point Of View
When playing stick to the third person limited point of view. No first person, please. Threads flow more smoothly if they are all third person. Bear in mind that other people will be reading these threads.
Classes/School Rules
Classes….we want you to go, so to count as attending you need to make at least one post in each active class. Sounds painful, but for the most part it isn’t. As an incentive, plot points and key information will be handed out during class so pay attention…you might learn something.
Character vs. Player
The age old problem. A character is just that, something out of a player’s imagination. Some players identify more with their characters than others, so just because your characters don’t get along doesn’t mean you and the other player don’t get along. Don’t be afraid to spark rivalries within the school, but remember to keep it in the roleplay, and don’t hold grudges for character interactions.
What’s the point, if not getting to be someone totally different? ^_^
-If you have read this far please put the word camarilla in your application.
All three words MUST be present for you to be accepted as a student.
Warnings/Consequences
You get 3 strikes your out for average offenses. That means two warnings and then a three day ban. Granted each infraction will be dealt with case by case, more serious and less exist out there…but bear this in mind.
